ECC receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

Elgin Community College has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, for the seventh year in a row. This is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.

This prestigious award is granted to entities who demonstrate proficiency in four core categories which gauge how well said entity's budget functions as: a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. The budget must also be proficient in 14 mandatory criteria within those core categories to receive the award.

Along with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, Sharon Konny, vice president of business and finance, was also presented with the Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation. The certificate is presented to an individual or department who demonstrates primary responsibility for earning the award.

"I'm honored to receive the award on behalf of the college and the finance department," said Konny. "This award is a testament to the college's commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency in the budgeting process."

In fiscal 2014, ECC was one of 1,491 recipients of the award who displayed efforts to improve budgeting quality and provided a stellar example for other North American governments. ECC is also a nine-time recipient of the GFOA Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving over 17,800 government finance professionals throughout North America.
