Bloomingdale doctor gets promotion
A doctor from Bloomingdale, Jairo Mejia, has been named chief medical officer for Access Community Health Network, one of the nation's largest networks of federally qualified health centers.
Dr. Mejia has been with the network for more than 10 years and previously served as a regional medical director, which included oversight of health centers in Cook and DuPage counties.
He joined ACCESS as an internist in 2005, and after two years was promoted to regional medical director where he led his regions in adopting electronic health record and practice management systems.
His appointment puts Dr. Mejia in position to serve the network's 176,000-plus patients on a larger scale.
"I can work on strategies to make a difference for the patients who call ACCESS their primary care medical home," he said. "I have the honor of knowing firsthand about the struggles that some of our patients face from battling obesity to managing chronic health conditions."
Dr. Mejia has held academic positions that include clinical preceptor at Midwestern University; assistant professor of medicine, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science; and associate professor at University of Cauca Medical School in Colombia, South America.
