Blackhawks fans prefer Canada

Blackhawks fans, it appears, want to get the heck out of the country.

At least when it comes to watching their favorite hockey team on the road.

Last week, I posed the following question on Twitter: If you had a chance to fly on the Blackhawks' team plane to any road game next season, which city would you choose?

I did it because the Hawks and Wild are auctioning off this very experience to help raise money for Matt Olson, the Minnesota native who suffered a severe spinal cord injury at the Sears Centre in February. Bidding ends Wednesday at blackhawks.nhl.com/club.

The winning bidder probably won't be able to pick their city, but I wanted to see where Hawks fans would go if given the choice. So I ran four polls and had the winning city from each one face off two days later. Twitter limits the number of choices in a poll, which is why I couldn't choose more than four cities at a time.

All I can say is Oh, Canada as the winners were:

• Toronto (46 percent) over Colorado (28), San Jose (16) and Pittsburgh (10).

• Vancouver (43 percent) over Los Angeles (38), Tampa Bay (13) and Anaheim (8).

• Montreal (61 percent) over New York (27) and Nashville (12).

• Boston (40 percent) over Dallas (35), Detroit (14) and St. Louis (11).

And the winner is …

Montreal, which took in 42 percent of the final poll to beat out Vancouver (25), Toronto (23) and Boston (11).

As of Wednesday afternoon, the bid had reached $11,100, by far outpacing the other items up for auction.

The skinny: The Blackhawks have lost six straight games to Minnesota and would be swept by the Wild if they don't win this game. … Minnesota has won five straight and leads the Avalanche by 3 points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. … Devan Dubnyk has a .956 save percentage and has allowed just 7 goals during the Wild's winning streak. … Zach Parise leads the way offensively with 24 goals in 65 games. He has 5 goals and an assist in the last two games. … Artemi Panarin has just 1 goal in 11 games and has not taken a shot on goal in three straight games. … Scott Darling should start his sixth straight game in net for the Blackhawks.
