Music notes: Earth, Wind & Fire rejoin Chicago for tour
Sweet home, Chicago
Two Chicago-born bands are having a homecoming of sorts at the United Center Friday, April 1. Back in 2015, funk-leaning rock band Earth, Wind & Fire combined forces with jazzy rockers Chicago for the “Heart and Soul Tour,” featuring each band's greatest hits and culminating in a finale when the bands play on stage together. The show was a hit, so the Grammy Award-winning bands decided the world needed another dose. Catch them as the “Heart and Soul 2.0” tour makes a hometown stop at the United Center, 1901 W. Madison St., Chicago. $25-$614. (312) 455-4500 or unitedcenter.com. 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1
Music at Imago
You'll find more than movies at Judson University's Imago Film Festival in Elgin. Attendees can catch a pair of musical performances, too. Citizen Way, Christian pop-rockers who met at Judson, just released a second album and are currently on tour with the “MercyMe Spring Tour 2016.” The band will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Thulin Performance Hall at JU. Elgin-based hard-rocking post-metal Raze the Darkness, winners of Judson's Battle of the Bands in February, will perform at the festival's finale at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in the Thompson Center. The Imago Film Festival is March 29-April 2 at Judson University, 1151 N. State St., Elgin. Visit imagofilmfestival.com for more information and festival tickets.
Warped friends and neighbors
Now that the dust has settled from the festival announcements last week, here's a look at some of the local artists tapped for the Vans Warped Tour.
• South suburban Real Friends aren't newbies on the Warped scene, but the third time's a charm for the pop-punk rockers as they get to take the full tour for their first time. They're on the verge of releasing their second album, so this promises to be a big summer for the Tinley Park-based band.
• Touring is nothing new for south suburban pop-punk band Knuckle Puck, as last year's trek to Europe shows. Watch for the second-year Warped Tour artists to make some noise with their energetic live shows.
• Rockford's The Color Morale takes the show on the road once again with their second Warped Tour appearance. The post hard-core rockers are in production on a new album, a follow-up to 2014's “Hold On Pain Ends.”
• Chicago deathcore veterans Veil of Maya have experience at the Tinley Park venue, having played the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, but this is their first time joining Warped Tour.
• Pop-rockers Marina City from Chicago are also making their Warped Tour debut this summer, but because of scheduling conflicts you can only catch them on the western U.S. dates.
See vanswarpedtour.com for the full lineup.
11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, 19100 S. Ridgeland, Tinley Park. $41.50 for general admission, with a special 3-D collector ticket available for $51.50, at livenation.com.
