New York held to draw by 10-man New England

New York City squandered a great chance to register its first win at home this season when it was held to a 1-1 draw by a 10-man New England at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

New York went 1-0 up after just 10 minutes when Thomas McNamara headed home a rebounded shot from Spanish World Cup winner David Villa that hit the crossbar.

New England equalized just before half time when Chris Tierney's free-kick went in off a deflection but were reduced to 10 men when Ghanaian midfielder Gershon Koffie was shown a straight red card for a tackle from behind on McNamara.

Despite having a one-man advantage, New York was unable to break the deadlock and has now played three games at home this season without winning.

Michael Barrios scored his first two goals of the season to help FC Dallas beat D.C. United 3-0.

Barrios opened the scoring in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a miscommunication between two United defenders and slotting the ball into the top corner.

He made it 2-0 before halftime then Maximiliano Urruti completed the scoring in the 52nd minute.

Pedro Morales scored from the penalty spot as Vancouver beat Houston 1-0.

The Vancouver captain sent goalkeeper Joe Willis the wrong way after Houston Dynamo defender Jalil Anibaba brought down Whitecaps striker Masato Kudo in the box.
