Algonquin man seriously injured in I-355 crash near Lombard

An Algonquin man was seriously injured after he lost control of his vehicle Friday morning on southbound I-355 near the Lombard-Glen Ellyn border.

Police said the 33-year-old was driving a Chevrolet Blazer near St. Charles Road shortly after 7 a.m. when he lost control for unknown reasons. The vehicle swerved to the right, striking an SUV in the far right lane that was driven by a 32-year-old Mount Prospect man.

Police say the Blazer then swerved to the left and struck a concrete median barrier before bouncing back into traffic and hitting a van in the far left lane being driven by a 31-year-old Roselle man.

The driver of the Blazer was not wearing his seat belt and was partially ejected during one of the impacts. Police say he suffered severe injuries and was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

All three lanes of southbound I-355 from Army Trail Road to Roosevelt Road were closed for several hours and caused extensive delays until shortly before 10 a.m. while police investigated the crash.
