Group from Netherlands college visits Oakton

Fourteen delegates from Koning Willem I College in the Netherlands visited Oakton Community College in Des Plaines Wednesday to learn more about U.S. community colleges.

The delegation was in the Northwest suburbs while at a Chicago conference hosted by The League for Innovation in the Community College. The delegation also visited Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills.

Koning Willem I College and Oakton have swapped faculty, administrators and staff since the 1990s, officials say.

"This is just part of our commitment to prepare students to be ready for a global society," Oakton President Joianne Smith said in a news release. "One of the best ways we can do that is to have dialogues with international contingencies."
