Show some pride, Itasca, stow trash

For the fourth consecutive spring, my husband and I have personally collected the debris on the south side of the fence on Park Avenue bordering Thorndale Avenue. This year we filled four and a half black contractor bags with white plastic bags, 19 plastic bottles, 46 beer cans, styrofoam of all types, 13 liquor bottles, 21 cans of snuff and lastly, 22 grocery bags full of dog excrement.

Come on residents, how difficult is it to simply deal with your trash by securing your garbage can lids and if you are a dog owner take your stuff home and put it in your own garbage? I highly doubt the liquor bottles blew there from someone's garbage. They were obviously tossed out of a moving vehicle.

Therefore, a few suggestions to Mayor Pruyn: Post several signs indicating litterers will be fined. Call the proper agency and have the garbage on the north side of the fence on Park Avenue cleaned up. While you're at it, have the shoulders up and down Thorndale in general cleaned up as well. Take a look at the Community Garden area which we have also cleaned up every spring.

Personally, if I was considering buying a home in this area, I would look elsewhere.

If the residents and the leadership of Itasca would have some pride and expend a little effort, you would have saved me the time it took to clean up someone else's mess and to compose this letter and I could have spent more time with my grandchildren.
