Learn how to plant a garden, save on groceries April 2

The St. Charles Public Library will present "Planning and Planting a Vegetable Garden" at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in the Huntley Meeting Room, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener Susan Werner will discuss how to feed the entire family fruits and vegetables from your own garden. The program will highlight site preparation - from size, location and soil selection - through harvest, as welll as tips and common mistakes made in the garden.

Planting, harvesting and caring for a garden is a great way to bring family together in the outdoors, and is a way to save significant money on groceries. By freezing, drying and canning your food, the savings can extend beyond the growing season. Besides being able to enjoy fruits, vegetables, and herbs from a garden, there is a positive impact to health, family and the environment.
