Giving DuPage has been named a notable nonprofit by the Daily Herald Business Ledger, which recently announced its Annual Awards for Business Excellence recipients.
The AABEs are presented in recognition of business achievement, growth and community involvement. Giving DuPage was recognized in the category of Notable Not-for-Profit Organization.
Giving DuPage board President Paul Feith said the recognition validates the hard work that goes into the organization's programs and services.
"Giving DuPage has a 15-year history of connecting volunteers and donors with local opportunities to give back," Feith said. "Receiving this honor underscores our commitment to this role and makes us feel incredibly proud of our achievements in civic engagement."
With a mission to promote giving and volunteering in DuPage County, Giving DuPage is a nonprofit organization that provides an online Volunteer Portal highlighting hundreds of local volunteer opportunities for DuPage-area charities. In 2015, the Volunteer Portal connected more than 1,000 volunteers to local nonprofit organizations. To further celebrate volunteers, Giving DuPage organizes a countywide recognition event called Volapalooza.
Giving DuPage also hosts the DuPage Human Race, a 5K community event that raises awareness and funds for 70 participating charity organizations. In four years, the DuPage Human Race has attracted more than 5,000 participants and raised $255,545 for local nonprofits.
As a public-private partner of DuPage County, Giving DuPage is a wonderful investment in the county's community development, Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Bob Larsen said.
"Giving DuPage is a one-stop shop for anyone -- families, students, businesses, community groups or faith-based organizations -- to get connected to local causes that matter to them and where they can make a big difference in our community," Larsen said.
The AABE award recipients will be profiled in a special publication of the Daily Herald Business Ledger to be published on April 18.
