Trinity announces new partnership

Beginning in the fall of 2016, Trinity International University students will have the option of taking up to 30 credit hours in the Worldview at the Abbey bridge-year program in Colorado.

Under terms of a new partnership, students will apply to both Trinity and Worldview at the Abbey, meeting each entity's admission criteria.

Such programs typically are referred to as bridge-year options because they connect recent high school experiences with entry into college-level work.

After completion of the one-year Abbey program in Cañon City, Colorado, students will have a TIU transcript and automatic acceptance to Trinity College, plus a $2,500 scholarship for each remaining semester of study on the Deerfield campus.

While it is anticipated that many Abbey graduates will continue their studies at Trinity College, students also are free to transfer the Trinity credit completed at the Abbey to other institutions.

Academic oversight of the program will be Trinity's responsibility, while Worldview at the Abbey will provide facilities and learning resources. In the 30 semester hours of instruction, students will take a three-hour online course from Trinity and 27 credit hours on the Abbey campus in Colorado.

According to the organization's statement of faith, Worldview Academy is a nondenominational organization dedicated helping Christians think and live "in accord with a biblical worldview so that they will serve Christ and lead the culture."

In addition to classroom work, students will take leadership-building camping and rafting trips, and they will interact with pastors and congregations in the Cañon City community.

"Students in this program hone leadership and discipleship skills that will become crucial not only in the college years to follow, but throughout their lives," Trinity President David S. Dockery said.

Canyon City is located about 45 miles southwest of Colorado Springs in an area that attracts recreational tourists. Rock climbing and white-water rafting are popular pastimes.
