Vernon Hills slips past Lake Park

Maddie Farag and Sammie Biede scored goals, and Vernon Hills' girls soccer team edged Lake Park 2-1 in nonconference action Saturday.

Vernon Hills (2-1) led 2-0 at halftime before surrendering a second-half goal on a rebound. Alex Ludolp and Allie Biede had assists. Alex Napierskowski (4 saves) and Emily Myers (2 saves) shared time in net for the Cougars.

"As a coaching staff, we were very proud of our girls," Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou said. "We traveled with 14 players and had 2 field players and a goalkeeper available off the bench. A majority of the girls played for the full 80, and this was our third game this week. We still have a lot to build on, but we are happy about the result. Our girls showed some resilience and pride, which is very exciting."
