Baseball: Bartlett splits with Elk Grove

Bartlett splits: Tripp Paris and Shane Donovan combined on a 5-hitter and Austin Hilvert had a solo home run to lead the offense as Bartlett won Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader against Elk Grove 7-1. Cameron Mays, Donovan, Brad Nowak and Paris each doubled for the Hawks and Donovan had 3 RBI. In Game 2, the Hawks committed 3 errors in a 4-2 loss. Max Smithberg was the losing pitcher despite allowing no earned runs, Bartlett managed just 1 hit in the game.

Huntley falls, ties: Losing pitcher Noah Knoie had a double for Huntley in a 3-2 loss to Schaumburg in Game 1 of a nonconference DH. Joe Rizzo and Danny Smith had 2 hits each for the Red Raiders. In the second game, Smith had Huntley's only 2 hits in a 1-1 tie.

Harvest Christian 15, Midland Varna 5: In downstate Jacksonville, the Lions won their third straight as Chad Jakel had 2 doubles and 3 RBI, Also contributing the offense were Grant Young (2 RBI), Brock Wilken (2 hits, 2 RBI), Joey Pepper (2B, 2 RBI), Zach Pawelek (2 hits, RBI) and Dayne Frederick (2B, 3 RBI). Drew Lewis went 3 innings, allowing 2 hits with 3 strikeouts to earn the win.

Ottawa Marquette 5, Harvest Christian 3: The Lions (3-1) fell for the first time this season despite Joey Pepper going 2-for-3 with as double and 2 RBI. Brock Wilken added a double for Harvest and Chad Jakel suffered the loss on the mound.

CL South 7, ICCP 1: Cam Geisser had a home run, double and 3 RBI to lead the Gators to a nonconference win over IC Catholic. Nick Wolski added 2 hits for Crystal Lake South and Kory Olsen had 2 RBI. Kyle Lang went 4 innings, allowing 2 hits with 7 strikeouts to pick up the win.

Hampshire splits: Michael Kruse, Michael Bowen and Pawel Barnas combined on a 5-inning no-hitter to lead the Whip-Purs to a 16-0 nonconference win over Round Lake in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Kruse also had 2 hits and 4 RBI while Jacob Manning (3 hits) and Matthew Wians (2 RBI) also contributed to the offense. In Game 2, Alex Mahaz had 2 doubles and 2 RBI for the Whips in a 6-5 loss. Jacob Trevino also drove in 2 runs. Michael Tiedt was the losing pitcher.

Somonauk 6, Westminster Christian 3: Matthew Schulenburg had a triple and 2 RBI for Westminster in this nonconference game.
