Camacho, Elk Grove outlast Geneva

Elk Grove's Christian Camacho tossed a complete-game shutout to help the Grenadiers win their season opener against Geneva 3-0 on Friday.

Camacho, a senior, struck out seven and allowed 5 hits and 2 walks.

A.J. Lorenz drove in a pair of runs in the sixth inning, when Elk Grove scored all its runs. Chuck Fleming had the other RBI for Elk Grove, which made the most of its 3 hits.

Niles West 14, Wheeling 7: Four Wildcats pitcher allowed only 6 hits, but they also allowed 13 bases on balls in dropping their season opener.

Ryan Caulfield doubled and scored for Wheeling, and teammate Drew Roberts had 2 hits and drove in a run.
