Record turnout for primary in suburban Cook County

Full unofficial results from Tuesday's primary election in suburban Cook County, including break downs by precinct and township, are now available online on the Cook County Clerk's website, cookcountyclerk.com.

Unofficial results include all precinct totals, all early voting and about 22,500 mail ballots. Additional mail ballots are eligible to be counted if they were postmarked by March 15 and received by March 30. There are also up to 2,372 provisional ballots, that will count if validated.

Based on unofficial results, suburban Cook County turnout was about 48 percent, a record high for a presidential primary.

Unofficial results for the Democratic presidential nomination show Hillary Clinton won 16 of 30 suburban townships and Bernie Sanders won 14. On the Republican side, Donald Trump won 25 suburban townships and John Kasich won five.

Clinton's winning percentages were highest in New Trier (65 percent), Thornton (64.5 percent) and Rich (63.1 percent) townships. Sanders' highest winning percentages came in Riverside (57 percent), Berwyn (56.6 percent) and Stickney (56.6 percent) townships.

Trump's highest win percentages came in Stickney (61.9 percent), Norwood Park (57.4 percent), and Leyden (54.9 percent) townships. Kasich's highest win percentages came in New Trier (49.3 percent), Evanston (45.3 percent) and River Forest (41 percent) townships.

In the Democratic Primary for Cook County State's Attorney, Kim Foxx won 16 of 30 suburban townships. Incumbent Anita Alvarez won 14 townships.
