Middle School Band Performs in Disney World

On Saturday, March 19, the River Trails Middle School, Mount Prospect, Seventh and Eighth Grade Band and Jazz Ensemble will board two luxury motor coaches and begin a journey down to Orlando, Florida, where they will be giving two performances at Disney Springs, formerly downtown Disney.

This is the fifth trip that Todd Smith, director of bands, has taken with his bands to Walt Disney World. This trip takes place during the school district's spring break every other year. Along with these two performances and some time in all four theme parks, the bands will enjoy Disney's "You're Instrumental Workshop". In this workshop, the students will learn what it is like to be a professional musician by learning to play music in a short period of time for a performance. The workshop culminates with the band recording a track for a Disney animated film which they will get to bring home.

If you are going to be in the Orlando, Florida area, you can catch the Seventh and Eighth Grade Band on the Waterside Stage at Disney Springs at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22. The Jazz Ensemble will be on the same stage at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23.

If you would like to hear the set that the Jazz Ensemble will play at Disney Springs without making the trip to Orlando, you are in luck! They will play the same five songs at the Skokie Theatre, as they open for The Shout Section Big Band (a professional band under the direction of Brett Dean) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18.

Please visit the Skokie Theatre website for ticket information.
