CSN Songs celebrates music of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young April 9

The seven seasoned musicians of CSN Songs celebrate the music of famed super group Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in the Elgin Community College Arts Center's Blizzard Theatre, Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

On Aug. 18, 1969, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, and Neil Young hit the historic Woodstock stage and changed the face of folk/rock music forever. CSN Songs joyously reproduces the compositions and harmonious vocals of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young as they were originally written, recorded, and performed.

CSN Songs includes Phil Bertolo (guitar/vocals), Pete Scherer (guitar/vocals), Lou Pucci (guitar/vocals), Steve Magliaro (keyboard/piano), Aaron Chesler (bass guitar), John Hawes (drums), and Michael Patterson (percussion).

Band founder Phil Bertolo is the stepbrother of singer/songwriter Melanie who, like Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, performed at the Woodstock Festival in 1969. Bertolo, like his sibling, joined the music business and has spent his career performing, writing, engineering, and producing. He founded CSN Songs in 2012. Members of the band have shared the stage with artists such as The Four Seasons, Three Dog Night, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and have performed at historic music venues including The Roxy, Whiskey a Go Go, and Madison Square Garden.

Steve Duchrow, ECC Arts Center director of performing arts, is himself a fan of CSN Songs.

"It's hard to find a good CSN show because that signature vocal quality and harmony blend must be present," says Duchrow. "It has to be a near flawless replication, which is why, for years, I passed on booking other groups performing CSN material. Then I saw this group. It's so good, I've seen it twice. It's such a faithful replication of that historic sound."

Tickets to CSN Songs are $34. A three-course, preshow dinner prepared by ECC's award-winning Culinary Arts and Hospitality program can be purchased for an additional $29. Dinners must be ordered on or before Monday, April 4. The menu for April 9 includes Caesar salad, chicken saltimbocca accompanied by sun-dried tomato orzo and asparagus, and a tiramisu parfait for dessert. Wine and beer are sold separately by the glass.

Tickets for all performances in the ECC Arts Center are available online at tickets.elgin.edu or at the ECC Arts Center box office. Box office hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To purchase tickets by phone, call (847) 622-0300. All major credit cards are accepted.
