Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association's wheelchair track athlete Christian Clemmons of Zion is now training under Adam Bleakney, Men's Paralympic Head Wheelchair Track Coach at the University of Illinois's Paralympic Training Center.

Christian is studying kinesiology and sports psychology looking to coach track as a profession.

Christian began pushing track with Team GLASA in 2014 and is now one of the top wheelchair track sprinters in the country, making qualifying standards for the 2016 United States Paralympic Wheelchair Track and Field trials to be conducted June 30 to July 2 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Following three days of competition, the trials will culminate with a celebration on July 3 during which the U.S. team rosters for track and field, swimming and cycling will be announced for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Rio Games are expected to be the largest Paralympic Games to date, approximately 4,500 athletes with physical impairments from more than 165 countries will compete from Sept. 7-18.

GLASA is a nonprofit organization that promotes the physical and mental well-being of youth, adults and injured military with a physical or visual disability. GLASA serves individuals in local recreational to elite sports programs throughout northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
