Late goals put Dundee-Crown past Streamwood

Dundee-Crown finally started to connect in the second half. The Chargers started to connect on some passes, which led to connecting on some shots. Anna Kieltyka and Taylor Coffman scored in the second half to lead the Chargers to a 2-1 win against Streamwood in each team's girls soccer season opener.

Streamwood led at halftime thanks to a goal by Stephanie Corona, but the Sabres wore down in the second half in the nonconference matchup at Millennium Field in Streamwood.

The Chargers seemed to have some first-game jitters in the first 40 minutes and could never get into any sort of offensive flow.

"We were able to connect on some passes in the second half," said D-C coach Sebastian Falinski. "The girls worked for each other. Connecting on the passes gave us confidence and we were able to attack the goal."

Midway through the second half, Kieltyka took a pass from Samantha Christensen, raced pass the Sabre defense and fired a low shot past Streamwood keeper Yasmine Resendiz.

The Chargers had several chances to take the lead but couldn't find the back of the net. Resendiz stopped shots by Alyssa Moreno, Claire Pape and Kieltyka. Finally, in the waning moments, the Chargers took their first lead.

Emilie Hilton aimed a corner kick toward the net. Coffman was waiting at the corner of the net and deflected it in.

Streamwood had one last chance to tie, but Alondra Blanco's laser beam grazed the upright and missed wide right.

Blanco was seemingly everywhere for the Sabres, creating numerous opportunities throughout the game.

The Sabres largely dominated the first half, with Corona scoring from about 30 yards out after taking a pass from Karina Nevarez.

"They were tired," said Sabres coach Kristin Duffy. "They had trouble forcing, pushing up, going to the ball."
