Holy Family Catholic Academy continues to excel at Carmel High School's Math Competition

For the fourth consecutive year, Holy Family Catholic Academy brought home multiple trophies from Carmel High School's Middle School Math Contest. Carmel, a college prep Catholic high school in Mundelein, annually invites 18 area public and Catholic middle schools to participate in a morning-long event with 170 students competing for team and individual trophies. This year Holy Family Catholic Academy competed with both 7th and 8th grade teams. Each team finished second and 8th grade student, Noah Boock placed second in the individual contest.

States Mr. John Titterton, chairman of Carmel's Math Department, "It is always a pleasure to see Holy Family Academy at our event. They always do well here, and it speaks well of the kids, their families and their school."

Alex Kaminsky, 8th grade student said, "I am really proud of our results. It shows that HFCA's math program is really good and we have great teachers." Alex's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kaminsky agree, "We have been thrilled by the math accomplishments of both of our sons at Holy Family Catholic Academy. They have been fortunate to work with math teachers that inspire them, as well as fellow students that challenge them to the next level."

Holy Family Catholic Academy offers five distinct ability-based middle school math courses ranging from general math to Algebra II. Gone are the days when all classmates used the same textbook regardless of ability. "We are very proud of our middle school STEM focus, particularly our math curriculum," states Mrs. Kate O'Brien, Principal. "Our goal is to ensure that our curriculum meets or exceeds the expectations of area high schools. Feedback from graduates, parents, and high school administrators confirm that HFCA students are academically prepared and transition well to the rigors of high school."

This was the first year that 7th grader, Allie Belmonte attended the Carmel math competition, and she summed up the experience by saying, "I really didn't know what to expect, but it was really a fun morning. I'm proud of our team, and I can't wait to continue the Holy Family Catholic Academy math tradition next year!"
