Wauconda man killed in Port Barrington crash

A 64-year-old Wauconda man was killed in a three-vehicle crash involving a dump truck in Port Barrington Friday, authorities said.

Eric Norton was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at Roberts and Darrell roads, the Lake County sheriff's office said Saturday. Two other drivers involved were not injured.

A preliminary investigation shows Norton, the driver of a blue 2009 Jeep Liberty, and the driver of a Peterbilt dump truck entered the intersection at about the same time and collided, officials said. The front of the dump truck struck the driver's side of the Jeep.

Crash investigators were working to determine the color of the traffic lights at the time of the crash about 11:15 a.m. Friday, police said.

The dump truck had been traveling west on Darrell and entered the intersection at Roberts, police said. Norton's Jeep was traveling south on Roberts and entered the intersection at Darrell.

The third vehicle, a 2013 Buick Lacrosse, was traveling east on Darrell Road and was struck after the collision between the Peterbilt and Jeep.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
