Couch to 5K Week 4 tip: Don't overthink it

This week's workout: Walk 2.5 min/Run 5 min for 30 minutes

Sometimes your mentality can get in the way of achieving what you want.

Here are a few reminders to help you overcome those mistakes:

• Remember that you have to start somewhere. We all have had steps to take to get to where we want to be. Avoid focusing on where you aren't and look toward what you want to accomplish. Remind yourself that you have to put in the effort consistently to achieve your goals.

• Don't get caught up with comparisons. It is impossible to directly compare yourself to someone else. Everyone's bodies adjust to a new workout regimen in different ways and you may feel like you are ahead or behind the program. Focus on your body and the rest will take care of itself.

• Set smaller goals to create mini victories along the way. Give yourself something to focus on. We all need something to motivate us on the days we just simply don't feel up to running.

• Don't take advice from others too seriously. While guidance from others is very helpful, always remember that these are suggestions. You eventually will discover what works best for you.

• Recognize the prize in the process. Don't get so caught up in the outcome that you miss the experience of the journey.

• Smile and have fun out there!
