Citizenship Classes Open for Registration At Schaumburg Township District Library

Preparation classes for those desiring U.S. citizenship are open for registration at the Schaumburg Township District Library (STDL).

"U.S. Citizenship Preparation Class" runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays until Thursday, May 26 in the Adult Classroom of the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Road., Schaumburg. Those signing up for the class must show their green card.

Classes began Thursday, March 3, however, registration will remain open until Friday, March 18. Those registering on March 18 must stay for the class, according to STDL Literacy Coordinator Helen Stewart.

The "U.S. Citizenship Preparation Class" is free and sponsored in cooperation with District 214 Community Education. Participants will meet twice weekly to practice reading and writing in English and learn how to answer citizenship questions from the N-400 application. Requirements and obstacles will also be discussed. These classes are provided through a literacy grant from the American Library Association and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
