Negative campaign tone is troubling

Like most voters, I am troubled by the negative tone of the campaign literature that is being sent out by Michelle Moore about her opponent for DuPage County Board Tim Elliott.

In two different scenarios, the Moore camp is trying to align Tim Elliott with the "conflict, controversy and scandal" at both the College of DuPage and the DuPage Water Commission.

Admittedly, there were problems at both, but Tim Elliott did not create the problems, but was brought in as an effort to clean up the messes. Any attempt to blame Tim for the problems is an out-and-out fabrication.

I made an effort to reach out to Michelle Moore asking for her qualifications, and she contacted me with a voice-mail message, again disparaging Mr. Elliott. After further prodding, she did send me a long text message about her twenty years as an attorney and some other rather vague qualifications. I followed up with a call to a former DuPage County prosecutor who worked with her and was briefly her supervisor. She had nothing positive to say about Michelle.

On the other hand, I heard from a respected attorney who has known Tim for over 10 years and worked with him on the Plan Commission and on the Glen Ellyn Village Board. He praised him as "smart, astute and a great guy."

Most importantly, Tim is endorsed by the Daily Herald. If he is incompetent and dishonest as Michelle implies, he would never win their endorsement. These journalists study the issues and the candidates. I started as an objective voter, but all arrows point to a vote for Tim Elliott.
