Trout fishing season to open

Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda will open for rainbow trout fishing at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, after the release of roughly 600 pounds of trout in Banana Lake. Most of the trout range in size from three-quarters to one pound. Daily creel limit is five. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources closes trout season each year for the last three weeks of March when no trout may be taken from this stocked site until April 2. Fishing in the Lake County Forest Preserves is free. Anglers over 16 must have an Illinois fishing license and an inland trout stamp, which helps fund the stocking program. Lakewood features four other lakes and there are many other spots to fish in the forest preserves. Visit www.lcfpd.org or call (847) 367-6640 for copies.
