Gail Borden to host concert celebrating Sinatra's centennial

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of "Ol' Blue Eyes" Frank Sinatra with a special performance at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

Born Dec. 12, 1915, Frank Sinatra was one of the most popular singers of the 20th century, with a career that spanned from the 1930s through the 1990s. He recorded more than 60 albums and almost 300 singles. He was also an actor as well, appearing in more than 50 movies and many television shows and specials. He was also part of the "Rat Pack" that included Dean Martin, Joey Bishop and Sammy Davis Jr. All hung out together and performed in Las Vegas during the 1950s and 1960s.

Music librarian Christopher Popa has carefully chosen an hour's worth of authentic Sinatra arrangements that he will perform with live vocals against a backdrop of more than 400 eye-catching images from Sinatra's life and career.

The event is free to the community. Register at www.gailborden.info, at (847) 429-4597 or in person at the main library or Rakow Branch.
