Mundelein edges Palatine; Elk Grove, Rolling Meadows on a roll

Mundelein junior Lucy Renz scored the game-winner with 12 seconds left as the host Mustangs edged Palatine 11-10 on Monday in a nonconference girls water polo matchup.

Senior Mathilde Mogensen paced Palatine with 5 goals and 5 steals, and senior Rachel Hank came up with 2 goals, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Meghan Woell (6 saves) and Tess O'Brien (2) shared time in goal for Palatine.

"Great game overall, fantastic start to the season for both teams," said Palatine coach Mitch Tucker. "The game was back and forth the whole time and was played very cleanly for the first game of the year."

Elk Grove 15 Vernon Hills 4: Senior 2-meter set Lilly Lawrin led the way with 7 goals and 4 assists, and Alyssa Rosenorn had 1 goal and 7 assists to help the Grens win their nonconference season opener.

Juniors Lindsey Hendren (5 goals, 1 assist) and Hannah Sallenback (2 goals, 3 assists) and freshman Kaylee Hatfield (2 goals, 1 assist) also had productive games for the Grens.

Rolling Meadows 15, Maine East 3: Senior Sara Luedloff paced the Mustangs with 6 goals and senior Lizzie Hardt had 4 as the Mustangs picked up a nonconference road victory in their season opener. Junior goalie Betsy Zanocco stopped 8 shots for Meadows.
