Round Lake Area Exchange Club announces its March hometown hero

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club has announced its March Hometown Hero is U.S. Airman First Class Alex Newman of Hainesville.

He was registered for this honor by his father, Ted Newman, who is also from Hainesville.

Alex Newman is a 2015 graduate of Grayslake Central High School and has been serving in the Air Force for one year. He is in security forces. Newman has been awarded the Air Force Training Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.

With the support of this month's sponsor, Round Lake Area Unit District 116 Superintendent Constance Collins, Newman's "Hanging with the Heroes" care package will include beef jerky, Pop Tarts, granola bars and snacks, a personalized "Hanging with the Heroes" T-shirt donated by Artrageous of Hainesville, a piece of home, and letters from District 116 students.

The Round Lake Area Exchange Club will present a plaque on his behalf at its annual membership drive meeting Wednesday, March 9, at their meeting in Round Lake.
