First position not to Villasin's liking in 3-point contest finals

NORMAL - The luck of the draw was not kind to Prospect senior Angelina Villasin on Saturday.

Villasin shot first in the Queen of the Hill 3-Point Showdown finals at Redbird Arena and even though she made 7 of her 15 attempts, it wasn't enough to take home the championship plaque. That was won by Lincoln junior Hailie Williams, the Class 3A champion, who shot last and made 11.

"That psyched me out," Villasin said of shooting first. "I like it more going last so I have a goal."

Nevertheless Villasin, the Class 4A champion, enjoyed her weekend experience of being a part of the state tournament.

"It was cool," said Villasin, who plans to study physical therapy at Harper Junior College with the hopes of transferring at some point to San Diego State.

"I had all my teammates with me and I met a bunch of new girls who were really nice."

Villasin was trying to become the first girl from the Mid-Suburban League to win the competition, which began in 1994. Maggie Fontana of Fremd (2000) and Kelly McIntyre of Buffalo Grove (2003) previously finished second.

In Saturday's finals, Class 2A champ Cami Meadows of Trenton Wesclin came in second with 9 makes and Class 1A champion Arieal Scott of Danville Schlarman was third with 8.
