One dead in Hoffman Estates crash

An Oak Lawn man has died after a car crash Thursday night in Hoffman Estates.

Hoffman Estates police and firefighters responded to the two-vehicle collision at Route 72 and Huntington Boulevard at 8:17 p.m., according to a news release.

Two passengers in one of the vehicles were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with life-threatening injuries, according to the release. At 4:55 a.m. Friday, one of the passenger died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as 21-year-old Brendan Burke.

The second passenger was still being monitored after surgery.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he was listed in stable, condition.

The passengers in the second vehicle were treated and released, police said.

The crash is still under investigation by the Hoffman Estates Police Department.
