Wheeling man killed after car strikes him in Palatine

A 37-year-old Wheeling man died Wednesday morning after he was struck by a car while walking along Quentin Road near Riemer Reservoir Park in Palatine.

Kelly L. Corcoran was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where he had been taken with severe injuries, Palatine police said.

According to police, Corcoran was walking in the right southbound lane of Quentin Road between Willow and Wood streets when he was hit at about 12:58 a.m. by a 2013 Subaru Legacy driven by a 26-year-old Palatine area man. Corcoran was dressed in dark clothing and not using a nearby sidewalk, police said.

The driver, who was not injured, immediately called 911, police said.

Palatine Deputy Police Chief Michael Seebacher said investigators are still working to determine why Corcoran was walking in the roadway at almost 1 a.m.

Quentin Road was closed for almost five hours while the multijurisdictional Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team conducted a reconstruction investigation. No citations have been issued at this time, but the crash remains under investigation, police said.
