Cook Park Library displays students' 'ArtEffects' show

The opening reception of the fifth annual "ArtEffects" student art show was held Wednesday evening at the Cook Park Library as part of Libertyville Fine Arts Month.

About 150 pieces of student two-dimensional artwork created by kids in first through eighth grades from all five Libertyville School District 70 schools - Rockland, Copeland, Butterfield, Adler Park and Highland Middle - were displayed throughout the library for students, families, guests and patrons to view.

"Each year we think it gets a little better. It's a great way for us to support the arts program in District 70, which we feel very strongly is important to do," said Jan Hastings, student services coordinator for Cook Memorial Public Library District.

Visitors were entertained by the Highland Middle School Strolling Strings and the Highland Highlights Show Choir during the evening reception.

With the hard work from art teachers Alicia Sather, Cindi Sartain, Kathryn Bernard and Hilary Spector, they work all school year teaching students the arts, framing and labeling the artwork for the shows, and working to get the students artwork out in the community.

The District 70 student art show runs through March 30.
