Lake Zurich Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store to close next month

After operating for nearly 25 years in Lake Zurich, Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store will close next month.

Store closing and sale signs have been placed on the front windows of the specialty retailer at 696 S. Rand Road in the Deerpath Court Shopping Center. "The Lake Zurich store will close on April 27," confirmed company spokeswoman Shauntina Lilly.

She added that the store in Vernon Hills at 413 N. Milwaukee Ave. will continue to offer the area a large assortment of crafting, floral, seasonal accessories, finished home decor items in addition to fabrics for apparel, crafting and home decorating.

Merchandise at the Lake Zurich store will be discounted until the time the store closes, Lilly said.

Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, based in Hudson, Ohio, is a leading fabric and craft retailer with locations in 49 states. Founded in 1943 as a single retail store, the retailer now has about 850 stores across the country.

Lake Zurich village officials said they had not heard too much about the closing of the retailer that has been operating in town since April 29, 1991. "I have only heard informally that they are closing," said Village Planner Sam Hubbard.
