Chicago Fire signs Dutch midfielder Goosens

Following a productive tryout, 27-year-old Dutch midfielder John Goosens has signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Fire, team officials announced Monday.

According to Fire officials, the deal includes a club opion for a third year. "John's style of play suits our team quite well," Fire general manager Nelson Rodríguez said in a statement. "He can score from distance, run at the defense and play the final ball. His experience and willingness to serve as a role model to our younger players is an added plus."

Before joining the Fire, Goossens made 14 appearances for FC Voluntari in the Romanian Liga I, scoring one goal,
