Forest district summer camps offer natural fun

Campers ages 5 to 15 can get their daily dose of nature through a variety of summer day camps offered by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

Detailed information and registration is available online at dupageforest.org/camps. Registration deadlines vary.

"These popular programs are a wonderful opportunity for kids to explore nature and the outdoors," said Joe Cantore, president of the forest preserve district. "But they fill up quickly, so plan your child's summer adventure soon."

• Camp Caboose at St. James Farm in Warrenville. Kids ages 5 to 7 step into life on a caboose and explore the surrounding preserve with stories, games and crafts. Call (630) 580-7025.

• Camp FBW at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Youth ages 7 to 15 learn about plants, animals, bugs, nature, art and camping with fun projects and outdoor exploration. Camps start June 27, July 11 and July 25. Call (630) 850-8112.

• Horse Sense at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton. Youth ages 10 to 14 enjoy hands-on experiences with horses and a working barn as well as horse-related games and crafts and supervised lead-line rides. Call (630) 668-6012.

• Riding Sense at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton. Youth ages 12 to 14 enjoy hands-on experiences with horses and a working barn as well as horse-related games and crafts and daily riding lessons. Call (630) 668-6012.

• Kline Creek Farmhands at Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago. Kids ages 7 to 12 experience how kids lived more than a century ago through 1890s games and barnyard and farmhouse chores. Call (630) 876-5900.

• Ranger Adventure Camp at Mayslake in Oak Brook or Herrick Lake in Wheaton. Kids ages 9 to 12 find out about life as a ranger as they develop archery, fishing, paddling and wilderness-survival skills. Call (630) 933-7248.
