Holy Cross School announces record scholarships

Holy Cross School in Batavia announced merit-based academic scholarships received by seven eighth-grade students, more than 30 percent of the class, to area high schools.

The number of scholarships represents a record for the eight-year old school.

"The scholarships are a testimony to the motivation of our students and the solid academic foundation offered by Holy Cross," said Principal Mike Puttin.

According to Anthony Tinerella, head of school and principal at Marmion Academy, "Students that come to Marmion Academy from Holy Cross are well prepared for the rigors of high school. They excel not only in academics, but as leaders in athletics and extracurricular programs."

As the first new Catholic school in the Rockford Diocese in over 30 years, Holy Cross Catholic School in Batavia opened its doors in August of 2008. Currently serving 420 students from the Fox Valley area, Holy Cross Catholic School provides an intensely faith-based, academically challenging and differentiated education to students in preschool through eighth grade. Holy Cross is committed to educating students beyond the fundamentals while fostering an environment of cooperation, responsibility, respect, and service to others in preparation for life as faith-filled adults.
