Performing Arts at Oakton to stage 'Hedda Gabler'

Noted Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen's social drama "Hedda Gabler" comes alive Feb. 25-28 and March 3-6 when the Performing Arts at Oakton presents the play at Oakton's Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

A prototypical "desperate housewife," Hedda Gabler is married to a man she doesn't really love and longs for her personal freedom. When she becomes entangled in her husband's academic rivalry, she discovers that she can pull the strings that hold together careers as well as life and death.

Nicholas Rudall, the founding creative director of the University of Chicago's Court Theatre, translated the play into English.

"Hedda Gabler" opens at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, with a special $5 preview. Regular performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, and Saturday, Feb. 27, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28. Additional shows take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3; 8 p.m. Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6.

Tickets are $12 for general admission; $10 for students and seniors; and $8 for groups of 15 or more. Purchase online at www.oakton.edu/tickets or call (847) 635-1900.
