Batavia library board seeks to fill vacancy

Self-nominations to fill an open seat on the Batavia Public Library's board of trustees are now being accepted through Tuesday, March 29.

The open position is the result of a vacancy left by the resignation of former trustee Francine C. McGuire-Popeck.

Those interested in serving on the board must reside in the Batavia Public Library District. A map of the district is available at www.bataviapubliclibrary.org. The term of office runs through May 2017.

The seven-member board meets on the third Tuesday of every month. Trustees are assigned to serve on one or more committees, which meet periodically throughout the year.

The board establishes library policy, appoints the library director, and oversees the library's budget ($3.46 million). Trustees are elected at-large at the consolidated election (in odd-numbered years).

Letters of nomination should include name, address, email address, telephone number (most convenient; please specify home, work, or mobile), a statement of interest (reasons for wanting to serve on the board), and a statement of experience. Letters should be addressed to Open Seat, Board of Library Trustees, Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia, IL, 60510-2793; or emailed to trustees@bataviapubliclibrary.org.

Interviews will be conducted in closed session on Tuesday, April 19, as part of the regular board meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.

For information about the office of library trustee, contact library director George H. Scheetz, (630) 879-1393, ext. 350.
