Three chances to hear Democrats seeking Duckworth's seat

Two forums and an upcoming television appearance will allow voters to learn more about the three candidates running in the March 15 Democratic primary for the opportunity to succeed U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth in Congress.

Villa Park Mayor Deb Bullwinkel, state Sen. Mike Noland of Elgin and attorney and businessman Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg are seeking their party's nomination for the Illinois' 8th Congressional District seat.

They will attend a candidates forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Roselle/Bloomingdale at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, in the East Campus auditorium of Lake Park High School, 600 S. Medinah Road in Roselle.

A "meet and greet" with the candidates will be followed by the moderated forum, which starts at 4:30 p.m.

The three hopefuls will next face off at a debate at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29, at the Addison Public Library, 4 Friendship Plaza in Addison.

Addison, Bloomingdale and York Township Democratic organizations are sponsoring the debate, which will be moderated by WCPT on-air commentator Wayne Besen and broadcast simultaneously on his radio show at WCPT 820 AM.

Reservations for the debate can be made at WCPT820.com.

The three candidates also are scheduled to appear together on WTTW Channel 11's "Chicago Tonight" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1.

DuPage County Board member Pete DiCianni is the only candidate on the Republican ballot in the March 15 primary.

The 8th District is roughly centered in Schaumburg and includes parts of northwest Cook, northeast DuPage and northeast Kane counties. Duckworth is vacating the seat to run for the U.S. Senate.
