Convicted stowaway in trouble again after O'Hare appearance

A hefty bail set Thursday could ground a Chicago woman with a history of trying to sneak onto airplanes.

Police charged Marilyn Hartman, 64, with criminal trespass and violating terms of her probation after she defied orders to stay away from O'Hare and showed up at the airport's bus shuttle center Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Cook County Judge John Lyke set her bail at $150,000 Thursday.

In August 2014, Hartman slipped onto a Southwest Airlines flight from San Jose to Los Angeles without a ticket. She pleaded guilty to stowaway-related charges.

In April, May and July 2015, Chicago police arrested her on charges of criminal trespass and violating probation in four separate occurrences at O'Hare and Midway international airports.

At O'Hare last July, Hartman tried to bypass security, police said. The same month, she boarded an airplane at Midway with a ticket but caused a disturbance and was taken off.

Hartman also was arrested in February 2014 after trying to sneak onto three different airplanes headed for Hawaii at San Francisco International Airport, officials said.

Hartman has struggled with mental illness and homelessness, according to previous reports. Her next court date is set for Tuesday, Feb. 23.
