Maine West tops Maine East

As the saying goes, it's tough to defeat a team three times in one season but the Maine West girls basketball team wasn't hearing of that on Wednesday night.

The No. 7-seeded Warriors got their third win of the season over the No. 10 Blue Demons, 49-45, in the semifinals of the Evanston Class 4A regional and will try for a 25th regional crown when they face the No. 2-seeded hosts on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Maine West (21-7) got key contributions from three different classes.

Sophomore guard Allison Pearson led the Central Suburban North champs with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Senior Jordan Hart added 11 points and 7 rebounds while sophomore Catherine Johnson chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

New Trier 79, Leyden 40: Kathryn Pedi led 11 players who scored for top-seeded New Trier with 15 points.

Junior guard Artasia Gusman paced the No. 16-seeded Eagles with 11 points.
