Students invited to expo on historically black college

There are more than 100 historically black colleges and universities, or HBCUs, in the U.S. Learn about dozens of schools at "Think HBCU," a college expo being held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus, 1 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.

The event, which is open to high-school students and their parents, will include workshops on applying to college and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. Admissions representatives from 25 HBCUs and 10 other colleges and universities will provide information at the fair.

The following colleges will be represented:

HBCUs: Howard University, Arkansas Pine Bluff University, Alcorn University, Savannah State University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, Morgan State University, Fisk University, Grambling University, Florida A&M University, Hampton University, Clark-Atlanta University, Norfolk State University, Virginia Union University, Alabama A&M University, Jackson State University, Tennessee State University, Central State University, Prairie View A&M University, North Carolina A&T University, Tuskegee University, Dillard University, Xavier University, Rust College and Kentucky State University.

Other colleges and universities: College of Lake County, University Center of Lake County, Northern Illinois University, University of Illinois-Springfield, University of Wisconsin-Parkside, National Louis University, Northeastern University, Olivet Nazarene University, North Park University and Marquette University.

In addition, there will be tours of the CLC Lakeshore Campus and a college scholarship table.

Co-sponsors of the event are College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus, TRiO Educational Talent Search Scholars Program, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. (Lambda Nu Omega chapter), JIC Community Development Corporation and University Center of Lake County.
