Richardson, Fajardo pace Stevenson's playoff-opening win

Ashley Richardson scored 20 points and Janine Fajardo added 11 as No. 3 seed Stevenson rolled past No. 14 Palatine 51-38 in the Class 4A girls basketball regional semifinal at Wheeling on Tuesday.

Stevenson moves to 25-5 and advances to Thursday's regional final (7 p.m.) against No. 6 Zion-Benton.

Zion-Benton 61, Wheeling 51: Ledallia Maggett scored 20 points to lead No. 6 Zion-Benton to the win over No. 12 Wheeling on Wheeling's own floor.

Zion-Benton will face No. 3 Stevenson in Thursday's regional final at Wheeling.

Carmel 43, Woodstock 33: No. 7 Carmel advances to Thursday's regional final (7 p.m.) on its own floor against No. 2 Johnsburg, a 63-24 winner over No. 15 Amundsen.

Carmel is now 10-19 on the season.

Wauconda 62, Richmond-Burton 32: No. 6 Wauconda advances to Thursday's regional final (7 p.m.) at Senn against No. 3 Resurrection, a 71-41 winner over No. 14 Northside.

Wauconda is now 16-11 on the season.

Vernon Hills 51, Regina 19: Vernon Hills rushed out to a 19-3 first quarter lead en route to a big regional semifinal win at Ridgewood.

The No. 4 Cougars (16-12) got 11 points apiece out of both Dana Meline and Becky Bahlmann. Katie Burrows and Kayla Caudle each finished with 9 points apiece.

Vernon Hills advances to Thursday's regional final against No. 5 St. Viator.
