Where you can find fish fries in the Fox Valley

Lent is fish fry season in the Fox Valley. Here are a few to check out.

Algonquin

St. Margaret Mary Knights of Columbus Council 11091 will hold a fish fry from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 19, March 4 and 18, at St. Margaret Mary Ministry Center McDonnell Hall, 111 S. Hubbard St., Algonquin. Includes fried and baked fish, shrimp and pasta, salad bar, chowder and vegetable soup, mostaccioli, cheese pizza, french fries, dill potatoes, coleslaw, corn, bread, beverages and desserts. Elgin

American Legion Post 57, 820 N. Liberty St., Elgin, hosts a weekly Friday Night Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. It features your choice of haddock, perch, catfish, and shrimp with all the trimmings. For details, call (847) 741-1684 or visit elginpost57.com.

Maple Park

Maple Park American Legion Post 312 will hold its monthly all-you-can-eat fish and chicken fry from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. third Friday of each month at the post home, 302 Main St. Cost is $13, $11 for those 62 and older, $9 for those 12 and younger. Sugar Grove

The Sugar Grove American Legion will not offer a Friday fish fry this year, but will hold Saturday smelt and chicken frys from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27, March 12, March 26 and April 9 at the post, 65 First St., Sugar Grove. Virgil

Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 5N939 Meredith Road, Virgil, hosts a fish fry and bake sale from 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays through March 18. Dinner includes baked cod, fried perch, baked potato or fries, green beans, coleslaw, applesauce, roll, dessert and milk or coffee. Cost is $11, $4 for kids 5 to 10, or free for kids 4 and younger. West Dundee

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2298 at 117 S. First St., West Dundee, serves a fish fry from 5-8 p.m. Fridays, January through May. Included is beer-battered cod, choice of potato, coleslaw and a roll; cost is $9-14. Other menu items and non-fish choices are available. Call (847) 428-9006.
