The Giving Moon to perform at the P-ARTS Variety Show March 4

They've played the legendary clubs, L.A.'s Whiskey a Go-Go, and Chicago's Metro, House of Blues and Hard Rock Cafe. Now Fox Valley residents have a chance to see up-and-coming St. Charles band The Giving Moon perform several of their songs at the 13th annual P-ARTS Variety Show at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road in St. Charles.

Tickets, which will be available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m., are $7 or $5 for students.

The P-ARTS Variety Show is a featured program of the St. Charles Arts Council's "ARTSFest," which runs March 4-6 and showcases performing and visual arts by kindergarten through college-age student artists. For ARTSFest activities, visit StCharlesArtsCouncil.org.

"We are excited to be able to play several of our original songs at the P-ARTS Variety Show," says songwriter, lead guitarist and vocalist Sean Seales, who is a senior at St. Charles East High School and plays in their jazz band. "The Giving Moon is happy to help raise money for the arts and it's a great way to end my years at East."

Seales plans to attend college in Chicago at Northwestern or Columbia College, while continuing to perform with the band.

The Giving Moon made its first big mark on the Chicago music scene in 2012 when they took first place in Chicago's 2012 IAM Fest (Independent Artists and Musicians Festival sponsored by The Elbo Room) as one of over 120 bands. That win opened the doors for them to pursue some amazing opportunities, including opening for Eddie Money, Edgar Winter, and John Cafferty on Dec. 1, 2012, and Gary Hoey, ranked one of the top 100 guitarists in the world, also that December. Gary Hoey would later become the producer of their first EP, "The Wild," released June 25, 2013, and available on iTunes. The Giving Moon has a unique and vibrant sound, always trying to keep a variety in tone. The band can be found on Pandora Radio as well as social media including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Spotify and YouTube. The Giving Moon is currently unsigned and their goal is to share their music worldwide and perform across the globe. The Giving Moon was founded in 2008 by Seales and former band member Ryan Brasley. The group added bassist/vocalist Adam Suto in 2009 and drummer Nathan Melville in 2014. The members share influences from classic rock artists including Jimi Hendrix to many alternative artists including Foster the People and Radiohead. Sean Seales has been playing guitar since the age of 7 and also studies many other instruments. He was encouraged to start playing and creating music by his father Scott Seales and cites the Beatles as a major influence. Adam Suto started playing bass at the age of 11. Adam's father, an accomplished jazz guitar player, was a major reason he decided to pursue music. Adam's musical icons include Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, and John Patitucci. Nathan Melville, The Giving Moon's newest member, has been playing drums since age 7. He is self-taught, has years of experience working with percussionists around the Chicago area, and admires the work of classic artists Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

Celebrating its 13th year, the P-ARTS Variety Show is the major fundraiser for P-ARTS, St. Charles East High School's arts advocacy and booster club. P-ARTS volunteers work with East High School faculty and students to promote, educate and advocate for the literary, visual and performing arts as a vital component to a quality education. In addition to the variety show, P-ARTS provides grants to the high school's humanities department and the Visiting Artists Program, and provides scholarships for P-ARTS members.
