Wolves get OT win over Moose

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Right wing Danny Kristo scored 3:13 into overtime to give the Chicago Wolves a 3-2 overtime victory over the Manitoba Moose on Saturday afternoon at the MTS Centre.

Kristo received a pass at center ice along the right boards from defenseman Andre Benoit, circled with the puck for 10 seconds until he reached the slot and launched a wrister past Manitoba goaltender Eric Comrie.

Kristo's third overtime winner this season was made possible by second-period goals from forwards Jacob Doty and Pat Cannone. Goaltender Jordan Binnington posted 35 saves for the Wolves (23-21-2-2).

Manitoba (12-27-4-5) opened the scoring with John Albert's power-play goal at 8:06 of the first period. He found open ice in the slot, accepted Austen Brassard's pass from the right wing and fired the puck home.

The Moose moved the margin to 2-0 with 54 seconds left while enjoying a 5-on-3 advantage. Chase De Leo swatted a rebound out of midair and banked it off a Wolves defender's stick for the goal.

The Wolves made it 2-1 on Doty's rebound goal at 6:36 of the second period. Chris Butler centered a pass from the left point to the crease, where Evan Trupp gained control and forced Manitoba goaltender Eric Comrie to leave the net in order to make the save. Doty located the rebound, lunged at the puck and knocked it in the unguarded net.

Chicago maintained the pressure in the Moose zone and Cannone tied the score at 8:27 of the second. After a Manitoba icing call, Cannone won a faceoff, Kristo controlled it above the right circle and found Cannone open below the left circle with a diagonal pass for a one-timer.

Binnington (11-9-3) earned the win while Comrie (10-19-7) notched 35 saves for the Moose.

The Wolves play the Moose again at 2 p.m. Sunday to wrap up their four-game road trip. The team returns to Allstate Arena at 7 p.m. on Thursday to face the Iowa Wild.
