UAB: Longtime SID Norm Reilly dies after battling cancer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - UAB sports information director Norm Reilly has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 56.

UAB says in a news release that Reilly passed away at home Friday.

He was an associate athletic director who had led the sports information department since 2002. Reilly served as the primary media contact for UAB football and other sports.

UAB football coach Bill Clark says, ""Norm loved UAB football, and UAB football loved Norm."

Reilly was a 1980 graduate of the University of Georgia, where he also attended graduate school in public relations and worked for 15 years. He spent a year as director of communications and public relations at the National Senior Games Association and five years as assistant athletics director for media relations at East Carolina.
