History Book Club meets Feb. 17 at Prospect Heights Library

The History Book Club of the Prospect Heights Public Library will discuss "Temptations of Power: Islamists and Illiberal Democracy in a New Middle East" by Shadi Hamid.

Published in 2014, this book is a significant contribution to a topic that is constantly in the news. It brings on-the-ground detail and insider perspectives, including interviews with leading Islamist figures in Egypt, Jordan, and Tunisia, many of whom are currently imprisoned. The author also explores the changing role of U.S. policy toward Islamist groups.

The discussion will be moderated by Professor John McCarthy of Loyola University. The Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Prospect Heights Public Library, 12 N. Elm St. For information, call (847) 259-3500.
