Man gets four years in Mount Prospect forgery case

A Schiller Park man was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to using forged checks to pay for two watches and a diamond bracelet.

Terrence Norwood, 47, was sentenced Wednesday in exchange for his guilty plea and ordered to pay a total of $1,058 in fines, court records show.

In May, Norwood agreed to pay $6,600 on delivery for a watch advertised on Craigslist. Prosecutors say he gave the seller the address of a Mount Prospect apartment complex. Norwood met the delivery company driver in the parking lot and gave him a check for the full amount. When the seller attempted to deposit the check, he discovered it was fraudulent, prosecutors said. In the meantime, Norwood sold the watch at a Stone Park pawnshop.

In June, Norwood agreed to purchase a second watch from a different seller for $4,250, paid the delivery driver with a forged check and pawned the watch in Oak Park, prosecutors said. A similar scenario played out in July, when he agreed to buy a diamond bracelet listed on Craigslist for $2,237 and paid for it with a phony check, prosecutors said.

Norwood received credit for 187 days in custody. He must complete at least half his sentence before he is eligible for release.
