$100,000 bail for Bloomingdale woman charged with PTO theft

The former PTO treasurer of Bloomingdale's Winnebago Elementary School, accused of pilfering more than $19,000, is free after posting $10,000 bail.

Tiffany Moorman, 40, of the 300 block of Starling Court in Bloomingdale, has been charged with theft of more than $10,000. Prosecutors said she used the money to pay rent and other personal bills.

As treasurer for the PTO, Moorman had access to the organization's bank account. According to prosecutors, PTO officials discovered the missing funds in December 2015.

After an internal audit of the account, PTO officials discovered numerous unauthorized withdrawals, including ATM withdrawals. The withdrawals were made between December 2014 and November 2015, which includes the time that Moorman served as treasurer.

"For nearly one year, Tiffany Moorman allegedly pocketed money donated to the Winnebago Elementary School PTO," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "This money, nearly $19,000, was intended to be used for the benefit of the children of Winnebago Elementary School, not for (Moorman's) personal use."

Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 10.
